Our Story
Madewell Meats LLC has been providing its customers with top quality
ALL NATURAL Pork products for almost a decade.
We strive to meet the needs of the consumer with lean and tender pork. We are
also very much concerned with the environment so we grow hogs the natural way.
We
go out of our way to make sure that our great tasting pork is absolutely free of
antibiotics, growth stimulants, chemicals and animal by-products.
Madewell Meats LLC is primarily supplied by Steve Madewell &
Sons, which is a family farm in the Ozarks of Southwest Missouri. We have run a
100-sow farrow-to-finish outdoor swine operation for over 30 years. This means
that each and every hog we sell has not been in confinement one day of its life.
According to the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA), any meat product can carry the label “natural” as long
as it meets certain guidelines. These guidelines include: “During
processing, nothing synthetic is ever added to meat, including
preservatives, and the product is only minimally processed.”
The USDA
only targets the processing of the meat and says nothing of how the animals are
raised. We feel the all “natural” label does not pertain to the processing of
the meat only, but to the way the animals are raised. Our image of the word
“natural” includes the following:
1.
The animals are raised in an OUTDOOR (natural) environment their
entire life.
2.
The animals are not fed any animal by products, antibiotics, chemicals or
growth stimulants.
3.
The animals are not administered any antibiotics, chemicals or growth
stimulants.
We
can guarantee that the animals on our farm have not been fed or administered any
antibiotics, growth stimulants, chemicals or animal by-products their entire
life. We have the animals harvested in a humane manner
and processed in a sanitary and clean
environment. All our processing is done by USDA Inspected and/or State
Inspected facilities.
Raising hogs the way we
do is more costly and labor intensive. This manner of raising does not take
away from the taste or leanness of our pork, but adds assurance. Like so many
people, we’re also concerned about the use of antibiotics and their
ineffectiveness to fight some illnesses. Though it is not been proven, we feel
if we do not use any antibiotics or chemicals in the raising of our animals
there will be no chance for you to build up immunity to antibiotic your doctor
prescribes to fight off illness. The long term effects of the use of
antibiotics and chemicals on those who consume meat that came from animals
administered antibiotics and chemicals is still unknown. We feel we should be
responsible and do our part in protecting the possibility of any future problems
with your health.
With the quality of product combined with the customer satisfaction that they
are getting naturally grown pork, we will continue to produce “Madewell” pork
well into the future.
